Charles Doyle Rimer

March 21, 1940 – March 27, 2021

Charles (Butch) Doyle Rimer was born March 21, 1940, to Charles (Bunk) Rimer and Ruby (Frieling) Rimer in Greybull, Wyo. He passed on March 27, 2021, due to a long-term illness of pulmonary fibrosis and congestive heart failure. 

He was raised in Greybull until 1954 when the family moved to Casper, Wyo., because his father was transferred with Standard Oil. He spent his summers living with Don and Charlene Collingwood working on the farm. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1958. While attending school he was in the ROTC. He returned to Greybull in his early 20s, met and married Laurel Mable Jarrett in October 1960 in Greybull. One child was born to them, Teresa Mae Rimer (Holgate) on Aug. 19, 1962. He adopted Laura’s son Doug. Charles Rimer married Mary Ellen Fink on Dec. 11, 1965. During the early years of their marriage they lived in San Jose, Calif., and Shirley Basin, Wyo. He worked in the uranium mine for several years and then returned to Greybull. Two daughters were born to them, Marva and Charlene. They were married for 16 years.

He lived and worked in Greybull for most of his life as contractor/carpenter cabinet maker. He worked with Art Sylvester from 1974 to 1985, building and remodeling homes. Butch moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for about 23 years. While there he continued his work as a carpenter and craftsman. He had a very active and fulfilling life doing what he loved best which was fishing, camping and traveling the country. In 2009 he made his final return to Greybull residing next to Marva and Mark on Beaver Creek Road. While living there he worked out of his shop making cabinets, furniture and anything people wanted made. He enjoyed long gab sessions with family and friends, 4-wheeling, fishing, his dog (Marmaduke), playing pinochle and cribbage.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Clarence Elmer “Bunkie” (Marge) Rimer; sisters, Dorothy (Gene) Funk, Charlene Collingwood, Jacqueline (George) Pollard, Mary Ellen Rimer and brother-in-law Gary Emmett. 

He is survived by daughters Teresa (Steve) Holgate, grandchildren (Chrystal and Steven “Junior”) of Arizona; Marva Rimer (Mark Michelena) of Shell, Wyo., and Charlene (Jerry) Collingwood of Greybull, Wyo., grandchildren (Kyle and Kristen); three great grandchildren, sister Judy Emmett, brother-in-law Don Collingwood and many nieces and nephews.

A family graveside service will be held at the Whaley Cemetery on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 4 p.m. A reception/celebration of life will follow at the Greybull Elks BPOE #1431 Lodge at 5 p.m. Cremation has taken place at the Antelope Butte Crematory in Greybull. Arrangements are in the care of Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
