James Marchant Frost

James Marchant Frost

May 11, 1943 – March 30, 2021

James “Jimmy” Marchant Frost, 77, died on March 30, 2021, in the Billings Clinic after a brief illness.

Jimmy was born in Lovell on May 11, 1943, to James Taggart Frost and Laurine Marchant Frost. He was the eldest of four children. Jimmy was exceptionally intelligent and talented in music and other subjects. He was proficient on the piano by the age of 13 years.

Jimmy received his private pilot’s license in 1960 at the age of 16, making him the

youngest person to receive a pilot’s license that year. Jimmy graduated from Cowley High School as salutatorian with the Class of 1961. After high school he began working for Boeing Corp. in South Dakota, where he worked on missile sites before attending Northwest Community College for one year. He then attended the University of Wyoming for two years, majoring in aeronautical engineering. In 1967 Jimmy joined the National Guard and was honorably discharged in November 1973.

Jimmy returned to Lovell, where he and his brother, David Frost, formed Frost Brothers in 1966. After two years in business together, they joined with their father to form Jim T. Frost & Sons Construction in 1968. In 1974 Jim T. Frost & Sons Construction incorporated and formed Frost Construction Co. In subsequent years, Jim and his son, Sean Frost, formed Frost Rock Products Co. (2005), where Jim remained until his death. Jimmy’s area of expertise in the construction business was his estimating skills. He loved nothing more than shaving a competitor by $2,000 on a $4 million job. He always said, “The easiest money you will ever make is the money that you don’t leave on the table.”

Jimmy loved flying his own plane, building roads, making money and visiting with friends and family about every subject known to man. Later in life he enjoyed the years he spent with his longtime partner Roz Hillman, flying his airplane, boating on the lake, camping on the Big Horn Mountains and spending time with family. Jimmy spent the last several years alone, enjoying his home and his beautiful view of the Pryors and Big Horn Mountains. He enjoyed his time with his family and his friend Brenda Kawano.

Jimmy was an interesting, well-informed person with a great sense of humor. It was always fun and enlightening to have a long talk with him.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his and Sandra Teegerstrom’s infant son, Chad, and his parents.

He is survived by his and Kay Caulfield Frost’s son, Sean Damon (Norma) Frost of Byron; his and Sandra Teegerstrom’s daughter, Keri Hull Davis  of South Carolina; brother David (Julie Anne) Frost of Powell; sister Shelley Marie Dodson of Littleton, Colorado; brother Tony (Lynette) Frost of Cowley; grandchildren Hayley Huntley of Byron, Jordan Frost of Rapid City, Conner Davis of Berkeley, California, Jordan Davis of Long Beach, California, and Lauren Davis of Huntington Beach, California; and a great-grandson, Zayden Sean Huntley, of Byron.

Jimmy was honored at a family graveside service on April 3 at the Cowley Cemetery. A full memorial will be held at a later date.

High Flight by John Gillespie Magee Jr.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds, – and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,

I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air…

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue

I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark, or ever eagle flew –

And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
