Riverside Academic Challenge ranks second among small schools at State

The Academic Challenge team at Riverside High School finished the season with its best performance of the year, as juniors Kayti Kennedy and James Fauver and sophomores Dylan Alexander and Daytona Nielsen rose to the challenge of state competition.

“Playing online with a virtual format had been tough for the team this year as it was a departure from the traditional ‘Jeopardy’ style, but the team pulled it together for the state final,” said Coach Stuart DesRosier.

Thunder Basin High School won the competition, with Cheyenne East and Pine Bluffs rounding out the top three. Riverside came in just one spot back in fourth overall and second among small schools.

Haydon Paxton, a freshman team member, was not present for the meet.

“All members of the team are coming back next year with more great things to come,” said DesRosier.
