Nearly 150 attend fundraiser for Owen Kinane

The Herb Asp Community Center in Greybull was filled with people who came for the Owen Kinane fundraiser Sunday night. Two-year-old Owen has leukemia and has been traveling with his dad Roman to Billings for chemotherapy.

WYDOT warns of stolen blank vehicle titles

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is warning residents of potential fraudulent titles after a blank Wyoming title stock was stolen from a Wyoming county.
Some of these blank titles, which have control numbers ranging from 8790001 to 8790500, have been used for criminal purposes in Colorado. The control numbers are located at the lower right side of the title in silver print with a security box around the number. On the lower left side of the title will be marked “MV-301 (4/21)” with a round silver security seal to the right of the text. 

Basin is site of Christmas Tour of Homes

Grab your Passbook for the Christmas Tour of Homes this Saturday at the Basin City Arts Center. 
Doors Open from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for the purchase of your Tour Passbook at $10 per person.  Five homes will be open from 1-5 p.m. and your Tour Passbook will be stamped as you enter. 
After touring homes,  come back to the arts center from 4:30-6 p.m. for refreshments and a Cookie Jar Silent Auction.   The six cookie jars will be filled to the brim with Christmas goodies.

BHC 4-H celebrates 2023 achievements

Big Horn County 4-H recognized the contributions of its volunteer leaders and success of its members during its recent Achievement Night celebration.
The evening’s highlights included the presentation of nine-year member pins, considered the greatest milestone in 4-H, along with a variety of special awards recognizing outstanding achievement in 4-H.
The following Big Horn County 4-Hers received nine-year jackets: Evelyn Brown, Roseannah Brown, Hanna Haley, Kenadee Rael, Gabriel VanderPloeg, Keyanna Walker, and Macie Hopkin.

100 Years Ago: Scarlet fever traced to Red Lodge

Dec. 14, 1923
During the past week, State Health Officer Dr. H.T. Harris was called to the Burlington country and found scarlet fever in the homes of Ole Olson, James Aagard and Clifford Compo. The condition was brought there from Red Lodge, Mont. Dr. Harris immediately placed the families under quarantine, and it is hoped there will be no spread of the disease.

Stories of Medicine Lodge come to life with interactive experience

The new Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site will soon have what some may call a world class experience.
An addition was added to house a cultural experience like no other in Wyoming and possibly the United States.  As you go through the exhibit you will be taken back in time.

Fair theme for 2024: ‘Ticket to Fairadise’

“Ticket to Fairadise” has been selected as the theme of next year’s Big Horn County Fair.
The fair board made the choice at its Dec. 4 meeting. It had been suggested by Tracy Haley, who serves on the board.  There will again be a fair book cover contest, asking for art that reflects the theme.
Also discussed was the Winter Festival in the indoor arena on January 20. The mechanical bull purchased for the fair will make its debut at the festival. Board members were given a demo, minus a rider, after the board meeting.

Average gas prices down 10.7 cents in Wyoming

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Average gasoline prices in Wyoming have fallen 10.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.04 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy.com’s survey of 494 stations in Wyoming.
Prices in Wyoming are 44.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, and stand 15.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.7 cents in the last week, and stands at $4.18 per gallon.

Elk harvested in Area 45 positive for brucellosis

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has detected brucellosis in Elk Hunt Area 45 on the western slope of the Bighorn Mountains. The cow elk was harvested by a hunter in late October. 
The positive detection was confirmed in November by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa. The Wyoming Livestock Board is working closely with Game and Fish to monitor the disease.
Brucellosis has not been documented in livestock in this area.

Accidental shooting leads to death of young Lovell man

LOVELL (WNE) — An accidental shooting has claimed the life of a young area man.
David Hatch, 21, accidentally shot himself in the head on Nov. 28 with a gun that he believed was unloaded, said Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn.
Hatch was hanging out with three adult friends in the Yellowtail Habitat east of Lovell, Blackburn said. The friends had been target shooting earlier and were enjoying each other’s company at the campsite.
