Buffs face Big Piney in regional opener

The Lady Buffs go into the West Regional Tournament in Lander this weekend as the No. 3 seed from the Northwest and will face the Lady Punchers from Big Piney in Friday’s opener.

Greybull is coming off a weekend split with Shoshoni and Big Horn, topping the Lady Blue of Shoshoni in four sets, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 25-23, and taking a three-set drubbing at the hands of Big Horn in the regular season closer, 20-25, 13-25, 17-25.

Buffs drop finale to Riverside, finish 3-5

Whatever could go wrong, did go wrong for the Greybull Buffs in their 2022 season finale.

Already eliminated from the playoffs, a year’s worth of bragging rights was the only thing on the line for the Buffs Friday night in Basin. For the next calendar year — just like they have for the past one — they will belong to Riverside, which pasted the Buffs 48-8.

GMS teams combine to post 10-3 record

Greybull Middle School enjoyed a highly successful season on the gridiron, as its eighth, seventh and sixth grade teams combined to win 10 of 13 contests against their rivals in the Big Horn Basin.

Buffs lose “pink game” to Rebels; come back strong at Thermopolis Invitational

Greybull had a long string of matches last week, starting with the Sept. 27 Pink Game in Basin against traditional rival, Riverside, and ending Saturday at the Thermopolis Invitational where they won the Silver bracket championship.

“We had a strong end to our week of volleyball,” Coach Sara Schlattmann commented. “And really that is what you hope for.”

Buffs improve to 2-2 with win over Chiefs

The Greybull Buffs are getting their offense in gear and should be as close to full health as they’ve been all season Friday when they face Rocky Mountain in the first of four straight conference games that will decide their playoff fate.

The Buffs throttled Wyoming Indian 56-14 Thursday afternoon in Ethete, shaking off their head coach’s concern about them overlooking the Chiefs while running their overall record to 2-2 and their conference mark to 1-2.

“They responded to that challenge pretty well, playing sound on both sides of the ball,” said Coach Jeremy Pouska.

Cook wins third straight 3A title

The Lovell Bulldogs golf team concluded the fall golf season with a strong showing at the Class 3A State Tournament Friday and Saturday in Buffalo.

The Lady Bulldogs placed third at State with a team score of 615, seven strokes ahead of Cody and 38 strokes behind Evanston. Wheatland won the girls title for the second straight year with a team score of 552.

Buffs put one in the win column

For the second straight season, the Greybull Buffs opened with a win on their home field, knocking off Moorcroft 28-14 in a nonconference nine-man game Thursday evening.

From an aesthetic standpoint, the game won’t end up on a wall of the Smithsonian. Defenses dominated. Neither team finished with a positive rushing total (Moorcroft’s net was -103, Greybull’s -19) and the teams combined for 18 penalties, seven turnovers and multiple breakdowns on special teams.

But a win is a win, especially for a Greybull team breaking in new starters.

Cook, Frazier capture net title at SSB Invite
