Homecoming game ends in defeat for Buffs

While they remain very much in the hunt for a playoff spot, the Greybull Buffs saw their hopes of winning the Class 1A West Conference title diminish with a 33-23 homecoming loss to Big Piney on Saturday afternoon.

It was another great week for the Greybull Lady Buff varsity volleyball team. In the annual pink game with the Riverside Rebels Oct. 1 in Basin, Greybull held off their counterparts in three exciting sets, 25-22, 26-24, 32-30, and topped homecoming week with a hard-fought conference victory over Shoshoni Friday 26-24, 25-18, 25-20.

The middle school volleyball season concludes this weekend with area sixth-grade teams playing at a jamboree in Shoshoni on Friday and the seventh- and eighth-grade teams competing at conference tournaments in Burlington and Greybull, respectively.

It was a split weekend for the Buff JV netters. They played the Rebels in Basin Oct. 1 in the annual pink game and, as Coach Christine Armel explained, it was the first time for the freshmen athletes to participate in the charity match.

The Lady Buffs came off the blocks with a roar last weekend as they scored consecutive conference wins over Rocky Mountain Friday night in Cowley, 25-18, 26-28, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13, and on their home floor Saturday against Thermopolis, 25-27, 26-24, 28-26, 15-24, 16-14.

GMS eighth graders whallop Wind River, remain unbeaten

In addition to being unbeaten, Greybull Middle School’s eighth-grade team is leading the conference in fun. The young Buffs routed Wind River, 46-0, on Saturday, improving to 4-0. They put their stamp on the game early, scoring on their opening possession, and cruised to the easy win.

Fifth graders beat Rocky and Burlington, lose to Thermopolis
