Lucas Bolzer scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:06 left, capping an eight-play, 68-yard drive and giving the Greybull Buffs an 18-14 win over Rocky Mountain Friday night in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd at Jim Crawford Field.

The third week of September offered a respite from the rigors of the middle school volleyball schedule, with just a single match against Ten Sleep on Friday on the slate for Greybull’s seventh- and eighth-grade teams.

Circuit rodeo finals decide season-long points races

E.J. Panetta, Joe Panetta, Taylor Sweet, Della Eppler, JT Collingwood and Keon Norris clinched wins in their respective season-long points races at the Big Horn Rodeo Circuit finals held Saturday afternoon at the fairgrounds in Basin.
E.J. Panetta won the calf roping, finishing in 13.26 seconds.  Ty Wilcox was second, with a 26.52.
Joe Panetta wrapped up the junior breakaway competition, claiming the win with a 3.68.  Teagan Wilcox, with a 4.20, and Lane Collingwood, with an 18.14, rounded out the top three.
Less than a second separated the top two junior barrel racers.  Sweet won it — and clinched the season-long — with an 18.87.  Talann Perry was second with a 19.763.
The women’s barrel racing competition also ended in dramatic fashion, with Eppler claiming the win with a 17.609 and Tammy Pollan ranking second with an 18.6.

After week off, Buffs return with home game vs. Rocky

No team in the Class 1A nine-man ranks is more ready for week three than the Greybull Buffs, who have not played a game since their 34-8 loss in Wright on Friday, Sept. 6.
The schedule makers had penciled in a Sept. 14 home game against the Powell JV, but that contest was cancelled — at Powell’s request.  Attempts to line up another opponent were unsuccessful.
As a result, the Buffs will finally get an opportunity move past their week one setback when they host Rocky Mountain today (Thursday, Sept. 19). Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
It’ll be the first of two regular season matchups with the Grizzlies.  But only the second one, which is set for Oct. 11 in Cowley, will count in the conference standings.

The Buffs will need to start better than they did against Wright. It was a rough opener on the road, as the Panthers built a 27-0 halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half.

GHS netters face toughest tests to date

Back on home court this weekend    

What a difference a week makes.  Last week at the Wind River Invitational, the Greybull Lady Buffs lost just one set in their matches.
This week, playing in an invitational at Big Horn, the Buff athletes ran into some unexpectedly strong teams. They didn’t rack up as many wins, but Coach Sara Schlattmann said, “It was a tough weekend for us as far as the win-loss column, but I also felt like we did some great things along the way.”
In Friday’s play, the Buffs scores were as follows: 13-25, 22-25 against Sundance; 22-25, 26-24, 15-17 versus Wright; 20-25, 18-25 versus Pine Bluffs; 25-17, 15-25, 11-15 versus Moorcroft; 9-25, 22-25 against Tongue River and 25-23, 14-25, 11-15 versus Big Horn.
