With four games in two days, the Greybull Buffs should learn a lot about themselves at this weekend’s Coal Miners Classic in Wright and Herder Classic in Glenrock.
Coach Logan Burningham has taken two of his last three teams to the state tournament.  The Buffs placed fourth last year, riding a talented senior core that included Aiden Reece, Cade Cooper, Cale Wright and Beto Diaz-Rios to a 13-13 overall record.
To make it back to Casper, the Buffs will lean heavily on their two returning senior starters in Carlos Rodriguez and Coby Henderson.
Rodriguez, a two-time all-stater, led the team in scoring, averaging 14.8 ppg, and rebounding, averaging 9 rpg.  He was also its best free-throw shooter, at 72%.
Henderson, a two-time all-conference selection, was one of Greybull’s top deep threats, connecting 55 times in 137 3-point attempts (40%), and the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 14.2 ppg.

With the conclusion of the high school football season came the release of all-conference and all-state teams in Wyoming’s five classifications.
The Greybull Buffs, who play in 1A nine-man, put one player, junior Lucas Bolzer, on the all-state team and four on the all-conference team, where Bolzer was joined by senior Joel Miller and juniors Wyatt Didrickson and Caiden Sorenson.  Senior Isaak Gaytan and sophomore Caiden Hunt made second team.
The all-state team has yet to be announced, but Bolzer made the squad, according to GHS football coach Jeremy Pouska.   The junior impressed coaches around the state with his hard-running, physical style of play. He led the Buffs in rushing, averaging 63 yards per game, and in scoring, with four touchdowns. Defensively, he ranked third (66 points) over seven games, tying for the team lead in solo stops with 25.

Greybull-Riverside got off to a fast start at Saturday’s Brawl in the Basin, winning 10 straight matches before leveling off over the course of nine grueling hours of middle school wrestling in Worland.
From a big-picture standpoint, the team continues to improve. “We have since the first weekend,” said Coach Mark Sanford. “A lot of things have gotten better. Their intensity definitely has, and they are really battling, which is what you want to see.”
The progress is showing up in individual matchups that are more competitive the second and third time around than they were early in the season.  G-R wrestlers are closing the gaps in scoring and extending matches.
“The effort’s been good all year, but we’re starting to figure a few things out,” he said. “On our takedowns, we’re still not getting what we need.  But as far as our wrestling on the mat, we’re doing better.”

Drop a pair of five-setters
