Local track athletes make us proud
An entire three days in Casper for the state track meet with no snowstorm, not much rainfall, sunny and hot days, a mild day, and a blustery, final day with some rain, some wind, and the sun peeking through in intervals. Could have been a whole lot worse.
Saw some tremendous showings by athletes across the four classes around the state.
Records falling, including a tremendous triple jump record set by a 1A athlete — over 49 feet. I can’t remember the exact inches. A state and class record. By a 1A sophomore, as I said. Incredible.
Then on Saturday that record was broken three more times, by 4A athletes. One after another. Wonderful to see the crowd’s reaction, no matter what school or class they were at the meet to watch.
A great showing by Wyatt Whaley, who placed high, a second and third in the shot and discus. Only a sophomore. Good signs for Greybull. And Marlee Henson who medaled in all four events. Caitlyn Hunt in the triple jump. The sprint medley relay team of Ashlyn Chacon, Addison Coscarelli, Henson and Adeline Kunkle took home fourth-place medals. The future appears bright for the Lady Buff tracksters!
The following Buffs also made it to the podium: Carter Peasley in the high jump, the 4x100 relay team of Peasley, Daniel Baker, Caiden Sorenson and Jesse Brown and the 4x400 relay team of Nikoah Sorenson, Sorenson, Shawn August and Brown.
The Big Horn boys won by over 60 points but when you see eight tracksters on the podium and five of them are wearing Big Horn uniforms you can kind of predict the outcome of the meet!
Good job to all the Buffs and Lady Buffs who represented their school and community in Casper this past weekend. You make us proud!
