Seventh graders find tough competition at Yellowstone
Greybull Middle School’s seventh-grade team finally reached the end of the road on Saturday, losing its only two games at the Yellowstone Conference tournament. The girls dropped their first game to Cody, 35-9, then fell to Lovell 33-23 in a much more competitive contest.
The girls won every other straight seventh grade game they played this season.
“It was not the end we had hoped for, but we knew going in that it was going to be pretty good competition,” said Coach Tami Wright.
She said her team struggled to execute its plays against a very strong Cody defense, but was much more effective against Lovell, building a 10-5 lead after one before seeing the Bulldogs surge to a 19-14 lead at the half.
“They started pressing us and that was something new for us,” Wright said. “Even though we had practiced a press breaker, when you do not play against it all season, it makes it pretty tough. Overall I was proud of how they played, they did a lot of good things. I think this group of girls have a lot of potential if they get out there and play in the off season and go to some camps.”
