Alice Marie May
March 21, 1956 – October 8, 2024
Alice Marie May, 68, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Greybull on October 8, 2024.
Alice was born March 21, 1956, in Greybull, Wyo., to Chester Arthur and Claretta Mae (Mortensen) Whaley. She grew up in the Shell Valley, graduating from Greybull High School in 1974. It was while in Greybull that she met Rick Bryant. She received a bachelor’s degree from Montana State University in Billings, Mont., in early education. Her first teaching job was in Harden, Mont. She taught K-5 on the reservation, which meant she often had younger siblings of her students attending as well, all in one classroom. Rick and Alice were married and their son, Thomas “TJ” was born. The family moved to Las Vegas where Angela “Angie” was born. To stay near her children, Alice opened a daycare in Las Vegas.
The family returned to Greybull in the late 1980s, where Rick and Alice soon divorced. As a single mother, Alice took pride in taking care of her family. She worked for Big Horn County Co-op as an accountant and was a substitute teacher in Greybull.
Her vacation time was spent with her children, camping, fishing and visiting education/historical sites in the surrounding areas. Even on vacation, she still had the teaching spirit.
Alice had a tenacious spirit, was dedicated to her family and was a born caretaker. She loved animals and could often be found taking in strays that her children would bring home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel; grandson, Stirling; brothers, Terry, Chet and Tom.
She is survived by her son, Thomas “TJ” Bryant of Dayton, Wyo.; daughter, Angela “Angie” Bryant of Greybull, Wyo.; sister, Judy Whaley of Cody; grandchildren: Chloey, Aaralyn, Summer, Breana, Troy and Nick.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Bryant Funeral Home to assist with funeral costs. Please send checks to PO Box 524 Worland, WY 82401. You may also donate at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
