Daniel “Dan” Paul Kost Sr.

Jan. 1, 1960 – Oct. 12, 2022

Daniel “Dan” Paul Kost Sr. left to go home to the Heavenly Father on Oct. 12, 2022, at St. Vincent’s hospital in Billings.  He was born on January 1, 1960 in Worland, Wyo., to David L. Kost and Ardeth D. Kost (Morris) as the middle child of five children.  

Dan was married twice, first to Debra Gilmore (LaBudda) and then to Karen Bretzman.  

Tragically Karen suddenly passed in 2016, which truly devastated him.  

Dan is survived by his children, Margie Nicole “Niki” Paxton (Bowe) and Daniel “Paul” Kost Jr. (Kim); three step-children, Amber Bretzman, Alisha Bretzman, and April Bretzman; two sisters, Julianna Rhoades and Mary Sandvold (Al); one brother, Kenneth (Ken) Kost; his sister-in-law Nancy Kost; six grandchildren, Destiny (Beedlebeak), William, David (Buddy), Patty (Doodlebug), AJ, and Carter and many nieces and nephews. 

Dan is preceded in death by his second wife, Karen Kost, parents, David and Ardeth Kost, his brother, David Joseph (Joe) Kost, and his brother-in-law, Glenn Rhoades.

Dan was a loving, caring man who would go out of his way to help other people if he knew they were in need.  He also had a great love for all things nature: plants and animals especially.  Dan could always be found near to his dogs, which were generally rescue dogs who needed new, good homes, which he always gave them.  For many years, Dan co-owned multiple greenhouse businesses in the Basin area and would spend a great deal of time coaxing growth out of any plant he could get his hands on. 

Dan will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.  We love and miss you dad!  Any donations to help with his funeral expenses can be made to his daughter, Niki Paxton, or his son Paul Kost.
