Dorothy Mayrene White

Feb. 6, 1928 – April 29, 2021

Dorothy Mayrene White, 93, passed away in Lovell on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Dorothy Mayrene Minard was born on February 6, 1928, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Levi and Susan (Gilbert) Minard, the second of five children. The family moved to Riverton, Wyoming, in 1940, where she graduated from Riverton High School in 1946.

Right after high school graduation on May 20, 1946, she married Ivan White. They made their home at Midvale near Ocean Lake. The family of three boys moved further on down the Missouri Valley toward Shoshoni in 1956. Ivan farmed and worked in the Beaver Creek Oil Field while Mayrene set about being a homemaker and raising their now five boys.

In 1963, the family bought an 800-acre ranch on the Greybull River near Burlington,  where hay and cattle were the primary crops. In 1968, son Frank joined the other five brothers. The family moved in 1969 to a ranch on the Tongue River near Ashland, Montana. Mayrene became a secretary at the St. Labre Indian Mission at Ashland for 22 years during this time. They were active in the Ashland Community Church.

With the sudden passing of Ivan in 1994, in 1998 Mayrene moved to Forsyth, Montana, to be near her son, Dennis, and was active in the Federated Church there. After Ivan’s death, Mayrene and several local ladies toured the Holy Land, Alaskan Coast and Branson, Missouri. In 2016, Dennis unexpectedly passed away, and she moved to Lovell in 2018 to be close to son Joe and family.

Mayrene became a member of the Lovell United Methodist Church, as religion was her passion. She loved going to church and attending Bible study groups.

After several falls and medical issues, Mayrene moved into the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell on March 25, 2021, where she resided until her death.

Mayrene is survived by her sisters, Olive Jean Neil of Sundance, Wyoming, and Florence Shipley of New Mexico; sons Dr. Melvin (Kathy) of Salines, California, Joe (Kathy) of Lovell, Ronald Dale (Kay) of Newcastle, Wyoming, Walter (Jorja) of Florida and Frank (Lola) of Salem, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Susan Minard, husband Ivan, son Dennis, brothers Lloyd and Lyle, grandson Patrick and daughters-in-law Leanna (Lee) and Pam.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the United Methodist Church congregation (Pastor Janita Krayniak) for their loving support and friendship, to her landlords Ron and Joann Walker and Jana Bloch, Vicki Croft, Angela Hopkin and all the wonderful aides at New Horizons Care Center for taking such great care of our mother. Also, thanks to Dr. Caldwell and all the nurses and aides at North Big Horn Hospital for their loving care during her final days and to the Jamesons at Haskell Funeral Home for making all the final arrangements simple and personal.

A graveside service will be held, Thursday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton, where Mayrene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ivan.
