Doug Showalter

Oct. 17, 1932 – Aug. 5, 2022

Longtime Shell, Wyo., resident Doug Showalter, 89, passed away on Aug. 5, 2022, at Bonnie Bluejacket Nursing Home. 

He was born in Fairbury, Neb., Oct. 17, 1932, to Henry and Ellen Wright Showalter. He lived in Nebraska throughout his childhood days. Doug always wanted to live in Wyoming so that’s where he lived his adult life. He loved the mountains and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.

Doug was a mechanic for the majority of his life, then was a logger and built fence in later years so that he could spend more time on the mountain. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother, former wife Donna DeBoer Showalter Butler, son Danny Showalter, grandson Dennis Hamilton and late wife Anita Hobbs Showalter. 

He is survived by one brother Ray Showalter (Jeannie); daughters Rory Sweetser, Ann Turner (Danny), Jan Barnett (Fred); son Clint Showalter; stepson David Moss (Charlotte); stepdaughter Lea Pate (Ralph); grandchildren JJ Williams (Katina), Melissa Mathis, Brian Hamilton (Amy), Brandi Hamilton Miller (Billy), Shelly Turner Poindexter (Michael), Afton Showalter, Daniel Moss, Jessica Moss, Carl Pate, Grant Pate; great grandchildren Jessica Williams, Dillon Williams, Alexis Williams Bellmyer (Tanner), Kaedin Williams, Cameron Hamilton, Morgan Hamilton, Austin Miller (Lauren), Madison Miller, Eric Aguilar, Felicia Aguilar, Eliza Poindexter Lucero (Dominic), Josiah Poindexter (Allison).

No services are planned at this time but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place at the Antelope Butte Crematory in Greybull, Wy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
