Drayton J. Griffin

March 22, 1997 – Aug. 20, 2022

Drayton J. Griffin of Shell, Wyo., passed away in the Big Horn Mountains of a heart attack, surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 20, 2022.

Drayton packed a lot into 25 short years.  He lived each day to the fullest. He was born at the Powell Hospital on March 22, 1997. He was fortunate to be raised on the family ranch, working alongside his brother while learning valuable skills from his Papa and Dad.  This is where he developed a strong work ethic and cultivated a passion for “Big Toys.” Initially it was playing with Tonka toys on the ditch bank, and then on to running farm equipment, and finally driving scrapers, loaders and semi-trucks.

Drayton graduated from Greybull High School in 2015. He was active in football, Skills U.S.A., and was a “humble” Homecoming King.  He was also an active member of the Shell Rough Rider’s 4-H Club, the “Shell’s Angels,” and the Greybull Elks Club.

When Drayton wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  This often included CLC & 7, prime rib on the smoker (and depending on the time of year) either a side-by-side or a snow machine.  His smile was infectious and his sense of humor was unmatched.  He was happiest surrounded by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Papa and Grandma (Steve and Margo Cannady).

He will be fiercely missed by his parents (Cammy and Lawrence Griffin) his brother (Cache Griffin), uncle (Cody Cannady), grandparents (Dan and Arlene Griffin), numerous family members and many, many friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Shell Community Hall Monday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m.  Please feel free to arrive at the services in your “favorite toy.” Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
