Jack L. Clucas

Jack L. Clucas was born April 10, 1939, in Greybull, WY, to Clyde Clucas and Ruth (Guinard) Clucas. He was raised in Shell and attended Shell School and graduated from Greybull High School in 1957. Shortly after graduating high school, he joined the US Navy.
On April 7, 1958, he married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Shaffer. After completing his Navy training, he was transferred to Barbers Point, Oahu, Hawaii, where Mary joined him. Jack served his service time flying the pacific from the North Pole to Australia and the Far East. In 1962, they returned to Shell and bought a ranch east of Shell. Jack went to work for the Big Horn County Predatory Board in 1964. He retired after 40 years in 2004. Jack and Mary sold their property in 2008 and made their home in Basin. They had been married for 65 years.
Jack was always interested in water and water use and was also instrumental in getting Lake Adelaide enlarged. He was interested in wildlife and their behavior, which he worked at for 40 years. He also was a dedicated photographer and was always looking for that perfect photo of a wild animal. Jack was active in 4-H his whole life as a member and a leader. He was also a 50-year Mason. He was also very active in the Big Horn County Search and Rescue team — Jack being the 1st Captain from the time it was organized in 1972 until he became a reserve member in 2000.
Jack was preceded in death by his father Clyde, mother Ruth, sister Christiana, sister Lora, and brother Robert.
He is survived by his wife Mary, brother Bill, and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Shell Community Hall. Interment will be in the Shell Cemetery.
