Jamie Catherine Miars Dalin
Oct. 29, 1977 - Nov. 8, 2025
Jamie Catherine Miars Dalin passed away at the age of 48 on Nov. 8, 2025, at home surrounded by family. A celebration of life will be held Jan. 10, 2026, at noon at the Greybull Ellks Lodge.
Jamie was the first child born to Dean and Cathy Miars in Walnut Creek, Calif., on Oct. 29, 1977. She was a bright and active child who loved reading books and animals. This led to her being very involved with 4-H. Her projects included sewing, sheep, pigs and steer.
At the age of 14, Jamie was the youngest delegate from California to represent 4-H at the national level in Washington D.C.; she really enjoyed that experience. Jamie always had animals at home which included hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, hermit crabs, goldfish, chickens and a large toad that she released in the house. We were never able to find that toad! Later in life her animal passions came to include horses and cows.
Jamie attended kindergarten through high school in California. After graduation from high school in 1995, she moved with her family to Otto, Wyo., and continued her education at Northwest College in Powell, where she achieved an associate’s degree in animal science.
After college, Jamie had a variety of jobs in the community that included Big Horn Co-op, the county extension office, USDA office, as well as being the secretary to the Airport/Bench Water District and a part time job at the local A&W. Later she served as letter carrier and clerk in the Greybull post office; then as officer in charge in the Byron, Manderson, and Basin post offices. She was a supervisor in the Cody Post Office and then Jamie went on to become postmaster in Burlington, Mammoth where she oversaw the outlying post offices in Yellowstone National Park (Canyon Village, Lake, Old Faithful and West Thumb).
In 2017 she returned to Greybull to become the postmaster there for seven years. Jamie enjoyed working at the post office and was grateful for the opportunity to interact with people in the communities she served.
In 1997 while working at A&W as a carhop, Jamie met Rob, the love of her life! On May 8, 1999, they were married in the little church in Shell. Jamie and Rob settled in Greybull where she enjoyed going to the mountains and being with her boys. There she liked to go to hunting camp, riding horses, cutting firewood, snowmobiling and fishing the creeks. Jamie was a great walker, she really liked to take off with her dogs and go for long walks.
In 2002 Jamie welcomed her first child, William; and then in 2005, Tyler joined their family. Through her boys Jamie learned to change the oil in her own car, rotate the tires and shooting sports. She also learned to run various pieces of equipment (skidsteers, loaders, semis, silage trucks and manure spreaders). Rob says, “She was pretty butch!”
Jamie’s parents taught her to never let anyone tell her she couldn’t do something just because she was a girl; she was to try her best to accomplish the task and discover for herself if she could or could not complete the task. She really took this to heart and turned out to be a very accomplished woman!
In more recent years Jamie came to really enjoy snowmobiling in the Big Horns, Togwotee Pass, Island Park, Cooke City, Top of the World and the Pryor Mountains. In the spring, summer and fall she would return to the Big Horns with her family for camping, long four-wheeler rides and picnics.
Jamie also enjoyed cake baking and decorating, making lots of wonderful, themed cakes for family and friends. A memory of Jamie that her sister shares would be all the fun times in the family pool in California and the silly, sometimes dangerous, things they would do to entertain themselves in the pool. Her love for swimming would later serve her well when Tyler, as a young toddler, ventured off into the deep end of a pool and she jumped in fully clothed to save him. A memory her parents share was when she learned to walk at the age of 9 months, being taught patiently by the family dog. Tyler remembers the numerous times she got stuck snowmobiling; but they didn’t count when she dug herself out! William remembers a time in Mammoth when the elk chased him and Tyler into the wrong car as they were leaving for school; Jamie came to the rescue of her boys by setting off the alarm on the car which spooked the elk away. Jamie loved to participate in the pig wrestling event at the Big Horn County Fair; she went on to become state champion along with her “bestie’s” Kathleen, Tracy and Bobbie.
Jamie had a reputation for always having a smile on her face and a kind word for all she met, whether that was working at the post office or volunteering throughout the community. She was always eager to help with fundraising activities such as school field trips, school sports, 4-H, and FFA.
Jamie leaves behind a legacy of love for family through her husband of 26 years, Robert Dalin; her two sons, William and Tyler; her grandmother Yvonne Richmond; her parents Dean and Cathy Miars; a sister Jessica Fink (Jim); her parents-in-law Ron and Donna Dalin; her brother-in-law Todd Dalin (Emily); and nieces and nephews Britney Fink Scott, CJ Fink, Garrett Dalin and Emmalynn Dalin.
Jamie will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she made within the communities she lived in, loved and served.
Cremation has taken place at the Antelope Butte Crematory in Greybull. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
