A lesson learned: Avoid swivel chairs on Friday the 13th
I have always been a little amazed at those who treat Friday the 13th differently. Careful in everything they do ... crazy, I’d say. Well on a Friday about 10 days ago, my swivel chair and I had an argument — and the chair won! It still sits in the living room in Greybull, and I am sitting in a rehab center in Sheridan, after a four-day detour to Billings to fix a dislocated hip.
Funny, laying in the pre-op room, I asked what day it was - Oct. 14 I was told. Which meant I hit the floor on FRIDAY THE 13TH. So, I still am not that afraid of Friday the 13th, but the next time one rolls around, I am steering clear of that darn swivel rocker.
But the down time has given me time to think about all the exciting action taking place in the sports world. This weekend the Lady Buffs will be in Riverton at the Class 2A West Regional — going in as the No. 1 seed. They will play St. Stephens at 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile the Lady Rebels, going into the 1A tournament as the No 1 seed, will play Encampment at 11:30 and the Lady Huskies, who are No. 3, will play Little Snake River.
The one culminating event was the state cross-country meet in Cheyenne last Saturday. What a meet it was. When the race was over, Jessie Micheals of Burlington crossed the finish line almost a minute ahead of the next runner. The talented 1A senior runner won it all. Granddaughter Boo and a runner from Thermopolis made it a photo finish for ninth and 10th. When the dust had cleared, Boo had finished just a tenth of a second behind her senior opponent. If Boo’s shoe had been a half a size bigger, she would have taken ninth. Boo’s friend and classmate, Grace, finished sixth and the TR team took fourth after being named the third-place finisher. The trophy was handed to them and pictures were taken with the trophy and ribbons, then the judges said “Oops, our mistake” and declared Burlington was actually the third-place team and TR took 4th.
Boo, a freshman, made all-state. A great feat for a freshman, especially since once in a while during the season she was known to take a wrong turn. (P.S. Grandson Hagen and his TR football teammates will be in Lyman Friday at 1 p.m. for a first-round playoff game.)
Wonderful day today, lunch with friends Sheila and her mom Sharon, daughter Joni. It was great to get out and laugh and have fun. Now sitting in my room, knowing I’m going to be released Saturday, so they say. I’m counting each day off, knowing I will be in my own home soon.
