Linda Jeanne Yonts Pangburn
June 25, 1946 - May 20, 2023
Linda Jeanne Pangburn was born on June 25, 1946, in Powell, Wyo., to parents Harold Robert Yonts and Eva Flona Yonts. She grew up on the family farm outside of Powell near Whistle Creek. Growing up, she had four brothers, Bob, Larry, Dean, and Delmer, to contend with! She loved her brothers and they were always considered family, even if they liked to argue at times. Linda attended Byron High School, home of the Eagles, graduating in 1964. Then she went on to get an associate’s degree from Northwest Community College.
After that, Linda went to Laramie, Wyo., to attend the University of Wyoming. She was unable to complete her bachelor’s degree, claiming it was due to her “lack of math skills.” She worked as a secretary for the University of Wyoming where she met and married her husband, Gary Pangburn. Gary and Linda moved to Greybull, Wyo., where Gary taught math and eventually became an insurance agent. In 1972, their only son, Ty Martin Pangburn, was born.
When Ty was grown and raised and didn’t need as much supervision, Linda continued her service with the State of Wyoming government as secretary to the director at the Wyoming Retirement Center. Eventually she retired while Gary continued to work in insurance for several more years. Linda and Gary were very proud of their son, Ty, cheering him on as he went off to college to receive a degree in engineering. He then moved to Longmont, Colo., to work as a computer engineer. Gary retired and they enjoyed spending even more time together. Sometimes, they were able to go hiking, camping or just touring Colorado and Wyoming with their son.
Gary passed away in 2020, and Linda went to live with her son in Aurora, Colo., in June of 2021. She was able to do some camping with her son. Linda enjoyed spending time with Ty, watching movies, and she loved working on word search puzzles.
Unfortunately, she passed away from colon cancer on May 20, 2023, at the Springs at St. Andrews nursing home with her son and her brother Delmer by her side. We grieve her loss! She is now with those who passed before her — her parents, Gary and her brother Dean.
She was always a very kind, talkative and caring person. She will be greatly missed by her son, her three surviving brothers Bob, Larry and Delmer Yonts, and her sister-in-law Kathy Yonts.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service for both Gary and Linda will be planned in the future in Powell, Wyo. At that time, Gary and Linda’s remains will be placed in the Powell cemetery near her parents and other family members.
