Louis Albert Cardenas, 77, of Greybull, Wyo., passed away peacefully on Dec. 4 in Billings, Mont., at Advanced Care Hospital of Montana with his wife and step daughter by his side.

Louis was born Clayton, New Mexico on Feb. 26, 1943, to Miguel Cardenas and Rachel Santisteven. He went to school at Douglas High in Wyoming. Louis married Margaret Dooley Cardenas on March 28, 1995, in Greybull Wyo., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He worked as a steelworker for many years constructing buildings and in his later years he ran his own yard business he and his wife built from the ground up servicing many people whom all loved him in his community. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Army and was awarded an honorable discharge as he finished his full term serving his country.

Louis loved to play horseshoes in tournaments and took home many first-place medals. He loved to take his wife and spend hours fishing at Sunshine Reservoir on their days off, seeing who could catch the biggest fish. In spring this is where his ashes will be spread as he felt most at home and peaceful here. 

Louis is preceded in death by his mother Rachel Santisteven, father Miguel Cardenas, son Louis Cardenas Jr., brothers Nash Cardenas, Raymond Cardenas, Mikey Cardenas, sisters Francis Hickie and Viola Garcia. 

Louis is survived by his wife Margaret Cardenas of 25 years, children Jason Cardenas of Casper, Wyo., Steve Cardenas of Lander, Wyo., Marissa England of Bastebille, La., Donna Rett and husband of Papaikou, Hawaii, Allan Hagstrom and wife of Cody, Wyo., and Abraham Hagstrom and wife of Houston, Texas; brothers Richard Cardenas and wife of Manilla, Utah, David Cardenas and wife of Casper, Wyo., JoAnn Cardenas and husband of Longview, Wash., and Barbara Louis of Denham Springs, La.; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Louis’ wishes were to not have a service as he was very adamant he wanted people to celebrate his life and not mourn it, to honor his wishes in Lew of attending a service.  Memorials may be given to his wife Margaret Cardenas at 741 S. 6th St., Greybull, WY, 82426.
