Lynda Nickle

Lynda Nickle, 78, died Sept. 4, 2020, at her home in Lovell.

Lynda was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Jackson, Miss., to Ben Price Lewis and Gladys V. Lewis. She was the youngest of 10 children.

She grew up in Canton, Miss., and attended Millsaps College in Jackson. While she was attending Millsaps College, she met her future husband, John T. Nickle, who was attending nearby Mississippi State college in Starkville, Miss.

John and Lynda were married on June 4, 1960, in Canton. They resided in Starkville until John graduated from Mississippi State in May of 1963. At that time, John told Lynda that they were loading up the car and moving to Wyoming with their two young children, Ray and Terry. Before that time, Lynda had never been out of Mississippi. They never looked back, and Lovell became their adopted home. They loved Lovell and the people of Lovell, and Wyoming accepted them, befriended them and loved them back.

After they moved to Wyoming, Lynda began working at Montana Dakota Utilities. She continued to work at MDU until John invested in and built Lovell Cable TV. Lynda began working at Lovell Cable TV in 1970. John and Lynda ran Lovell Cable TV as a family business until they sold it in 2005.

After the sale of Lovell Cable TV, Lynda began her final job as a volunteer at the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center. As with everything else in her life, she gave it 110%. Groundbreaking for the Wild Mustang Center began in late 2005, and the building was finished and opened in 2007. 

Lynda became the point person and face of the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center. What started as John’s vision became her passion. She loved meeting and talking with the visitors from the various states and countries. She continued to devote countless hours and pour her heart into the Center and the horses as a volunteer until her death. In a tribute to Lynda, Nancy Cerroni and the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center named the most recent 2020 Pryor foal Ursula. She will continue to watch over the Center and the horses from above.

Lynda loved spending time with her family. Pictures of her family were always placed on the front of the refrigerator. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She took pride in taking care of her yard and her house. 

She was an avid sports fan. It started with rooting for her children and attending all of the games for Lovell High School sports. Lovell Cable TV was one of the first cable TV systems to air local high school sports. She watched and rooted for the Denver Broncos each week (even after John Elway retired). 

She was an active member of the Methodist Church.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters. Lynda is survived by her husband of 60 years, John, son Ray Nickle, daughter-in-law Sharon Nickle, daughter Terry Hudspeth, granddaughter Nicole Hudspeth, grandson John Michael Nickle, grandson Greg (Whitney) Raney and great-granddaughter Sloane Raney. 

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the backbone of her family. She was loved and will be missed.

A gathering for family and friends to pay respect will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center, 1106 Road 12, Lovell.
