Navigating the spooky season in SBHC
When it comes to Halloween, one day isn’t nearly enough for all the spooky season fun that’s planned in south Big Horn County.
From haunted houses to parties and from cornhole tournaments to movies on the big screen, here’s a rundown of the events that have been reported to the newspaper offices. If yours isn’t listed, please call 765-4485 in Greybull or 568-2458 in Basin to get it included in the listings that appear in the Oct. 26 issue.
Saturday, Oct. 21
• Medicine Lodge Archaeological Site in Hyattville: Nightmare at Medicine Lodge, 4 to 8 p.m. Pumpkin carving, trunk-or-treat, haunted hike. Community involvement is needed so decorate your trunk and pass out candy. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated trunk. Thursday, Oct. 26
• Wyoming Retirement Center Halloween Carnival, 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 27
• The Greybull Elementary School Student Council is hosting a haunted house at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds in Basin, 7 to 10 p.m. Along with a haunted house there will be a carnival for children who don’t want to go through. Cost is $5 if you want to be scared or $5 for 10 games at the carnival.
Saturday, Oct. 28
• Saam Vet Clinic Annual Pet Costume Contest, 10 a.m. Pets should be on a leash or in a carrier.
• Basin City Arts Center is playing a family Halloween movie at 3 p.m. and a movie for ages 16 and up at 7 p.m. Donations appreciated.
• Manderson Police Department Halloween Party, 4 to 6 p.m., Manderson Town Hall.
• Art Shelter Gallery Open House, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Art Shelter Gallery is located near Shell.

• Costume Skate, 7:30 to 9 p.m., Herb Asp Community Center in Greybull.
• Greybull Elks Lodge Hallowbean Cornhole Tournament. Play begins at 3 p.m. Register early on the Scoreholio app or in person at 1 p.m. Calcutta at 2 p.m. This is a 32-team, double elimination tournament. Cost is $20 per two-person team. Monday, Oct. 30
• Burlington Schools: Monster Mash, 6 p.m.
• Paintrock FFA Trick-or-Treat for Canned Food Drive in Basin. Chapter members will go door to door collecting canned food items to donate to the Basin Food Bank. If you are interested in donating, please have your cans ready for pick-up. If you are interested in donating but a member does not visit your house, take your cans to Riverside Middle High School.
Tuesday, Oct. 31
• Greybull Elementary School Halloween Parade, 9 a.m. Businesses that would like to pass out candy are asked to contact the office, 765-2311.
• Halloween-themed Storytime at Big Horn County Library in Basin. 11 a.m. Stories, pumpkin painting and trick or treating at the courthouse.
• Greybull Main Street Trick-or-Treat, 4:30-6 p.m. Businesses will be handing out candy to trick or treaters and the public is invited to attend. Individuals who would like to bring pre-packaged treats to hand out are welcome as well.
• Basin Rec Trunk or Treat, 6:30 p.m. at the RMHS football field. The theme is “Classic Halloween.” Ghosts, vampires, pumpkin patch, etc. Those wanting a trunk should call Casey Masey by Oct. 27 at (307) 272-5582.
• Burlington Rec Trunk-or-Treat, 6:30 p.m. at BHS football field. Games and costume contests.
• Greybull Rec Spooky Scavenger Hunt: If you like to decorate for Halloween and enjoy trick-or-treaters visiting, please consider adding your address. Nine to 12 houses are needed. Bingo cards will be handed out to participants along with a list of addresses to find. Individuals who complete a card can place it in the book drop at the Greybull Public Library for a chance to win some great prizes. Participating houses will help by stamping the cards.
