Sandra Lea Smith

Feb. 25, 1948 – Feb. 9, 2023

Sandy Smith passed away on Feb. 9, 2023, at the New Horizon Care Center.

Sandy was born in Denver, Colo., to Wallace William and Marjorie Dawn Gainey. Sandy grew up in Denver until her junior year then the family moved to Grand Junction, Colo. She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1966.

Sandy met Jack Smith later that year and they married on May 20, 1967. A marriage which would last for 55 years. Two sons and a daughter soon arrived and another son was stillborn.

Sandy worked at several jobs before starting a family. Sandy then became a stay-at-home mom, raising her children and husband. The home was always full of nieces, nephews, the kids’ friends and finally the grandchildren arrived.

Sandy was always busy with crafts, making chocolate candy and cakes for birthdays, weddings and other events (some made up so she could decorate the cakes).

After the family was raised, Sandy worked for RL Poke & Company City Directory. She traveled to many towns in Wyoming, Montana and Colorado.

Sandy is survived by her husband Jack, son William Smith of Rozet, Wyo., daughter DeAnita Bowker of Billings, Mont., son Patrick Smith of Burlington, Wyo.; grandchildren Tabatha (Joshua) Holuska of Great Bend, Kan., Craig (Courtney) Amos of Billings, Mont., Tyler Bowker of Grand Junction, Colo., Kimberly Bowker of Billings, Mont., Ashley Zimmerman of Powell, Wyo., and Cameron Smith of Billings, Mont. There are also eight great grandchildren and a ninth on the way.

Sandy was preceded in death by her stillborn son, her parents and her twin sister.

A celebration of life will be scheduled later this year. Cremation has been completed at the Antelope Butte Crematory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
