Serena Mae Rogers Hunt

November 30, 1951 - December 11th 2025

Serena Mae Rogers Hunt was born Nov. 30, 1951, in the nursing home located in Basin, Wyo. I was born there not because my mother was of senior citizen age but because it also served as a hospital when necessary.

My parents were Betty and Doc (Anthony) Rogers and I joined two sisters, Charlotte and Annette, and one brother, Steve. Serena is a little bit unusual for a name and the story I was told was I was supposed to be a boy and they had no girl names picked out when I was born. The family was tasked to draw names submitted by each of them and the name Serena was drawn out of a hat.

I attended school in Greybull and graduated high school in 1970 and graduated from Northwest College in1972. I always felt I had an idyllic childhood growing up in a small town in the 1950s and 60s. It was a time of not having to lock your doors and leaving your keys in your car at night.

In July of 1972, I married Ron (Ronnie to me and his mother) Hunt and we stuck it out with each other for 53 years. Ronnie started tacking on four more years to that number for the four years we went together prior to our marriage. He called it getting credit for time served with the same woman. Proving a sense of humor helps in making a marriage last. Whatever the reason for our marriage lasting, I knew my life with Ronnie was where the core of my happiness in life came from him.

I worked many years at the telephone company and then many more years at the Montana Department of Transportation. Both places, I was blessed to make many friends along the way and kept many of them until I died. In 1980 Ronnie and I had our only child, Adrienne, and from her our only grandchild, Jake. Adrienne brought us much happiness and pride but probably felt her greatest gift as a daughter was Jake. There is no way to truly describe the love one feels for a grandchild.

Instead of hobbies or interests through my life, I felt I had many blessings. My top two was having a good and loving family from birth that followed me into adulthood and then so many good friends. Family is the base of life, but friends add that extra dash of sugar. And I felt I always had a lot of sugar. My other blessing was the joy I found in cooking, writing, swimming, games and music. I never really mastered any of them but loved the journey in pursuing them. I always hope that the people I have left behind will think of me whenever they eat one of my recipes, look at an old Christmas card, play dominoes, sing a campfire or revised yaya song, or laugh at something I did.

My parents and my sisters, Charlotte and Annette, preceded me in death and I leave behind my one true love, Ronnie, my beautiful daughter, Adrienne, and my handsome, smart and tolerant of a sometimes crazy grandma, Jake, my wonderful brother, Steve, my diverse and fantastic nieces and nephews on both sides of the family, my loving and entertaining in-laws and so many friends who shared my tears and laughter all through the years. I truly had a good life and was blessed.

I passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, with my family at my side.
