Veda May Ilg
March 31, 1932 - June 27, 2023
Veda May Ilg, 91, a former resident of Manderson and member of the community, peacefully passed away on June 27, 2023, at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Worland, Wyo.
Veda was born on March 31, 1932, in Lovell, Wyo., to Charles B. and Dorthy E. Watts. She spent her early years in Byron and received her education there, attending elementary school before graduating from Byron High School in 1950. After high school, Veda attended school at Northwest Community College where she received her teaching certificate. Veda's journey continued as she embarked on a new chapter of her life when she married Eugene Roual Ilg on April 16, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Basin. Together, they built a life centered around farming and ranching at Bonanza while raising their family.
Veda shared her knowledge and love for learning as a school teacher, teaching in Hyattville for a few years. Additionally, she played a role as a 4H Sewing Leader, helping shape the lives of young individuals in her community. For a number of years, she looked forward to every fall where she met hunters from across the nation while working at the game and fish checking station. In her spare time, Veda also enjoyed gardening and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, as well as her parents, Charles B. and Dorthy E. Watts; grandson, Gregory Paul Ilg; great-grandson, Levi Flint Vega; brothers, Earl, Richard and Carl Watts, and sister Edith Chaney.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Penny Ilg of Pendleton, Ore.; her daughter, Kathryn Muston of LaPorte, Texas; and her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberlee and Steven Steelman of Adel, Iowa. Her grandchildren include Lenora Dunkelburg (James), Erik Ilg (Andrea), Shannon Muston (Damaris), Laura Muniz (Ben), Amy Muston (Jordan Stevens), Jacob Steelman, and Dylan Steelman. Among her great-grandchildren are Antonio Vega, Israel Vega, Dax Muston, and Olivia Ilg, who each carry a special piece of her spirit within them. Veda also leaves behind her brother, Ralph and his wife Sandy Watts, who reside in Adel, Iowa.
A final resting place has been prepared for Veda at Mount View Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The family kindly requests that donations in Veda's honor be made to the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. To celebrate Veda’s life, a memorial service will be held in her honor. The details for the service will be announced at a later date, with the gathering expected to take place in September. Friends, family, and community members are invited to pay their respects. Cremation has taken place at the Antelope Butte Crematory in Greybull. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
