April 18, 1931 - Sept. 4, 2023

Verla Alice Kershner, 92, of Cody, Wyo., passed away on Sept. 4, 2023, at her home in Cody. Verla was born April 18, 1931, in Greybull, Wyo., to Earnest (Hammy) and Sarah (Sadie) Hamilton. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Verla is survived by her three children: Tommy R. Kershner (Sandy), Tim J. Kershner (Shirley), both of Greybull, and Tammy K. Preetorius of Provo, Utah.  She is also survived by her sister Verna Brown of Grand Junction, Colo.; two grandsons, Chad Kershner and Timothy Sean Preetorius; three great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Verla was preceded in death by her husband Carl Kershner, her parents and her two brothers, F.L. (Hammy) Hamilton and Kennith LaVere (also known as Ham) Hamilton.

Verla dedicated her life to serving others as a nurse in the Big Horn Basin area for 38 years. She was passionate about helping those in need and was always a champion for the underdog.

Verla was a devout Christian and faithfully attended Grace Fellowship Church in Greybull, where she served on the board of directors for several years. Her faith was an integral part of her life.

In her free time, Verla enjoyed studying the Bible, singing and listening to opera, especially "The Phantom of the Opera."  She loved playing pinochle, baking pies and spoiling her grandchildren, much to the chagrin of their parents.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Donald J. Ruhl Memorial Cemetery in Greybull, Wyo.  Verla's cremains will be placed in the Hamilton burial plot to rest in her hometown, surrounded by the beauty of the Wyoming landscape she loved.

Verla Alice Kershner will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.  May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
