Virginia Janene Smith

Sept. 21, 1929 – April 8, 2022

Virginia Janene Smith, 92, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away April 8, 2022, at her home. For many years, she had been under the care of her loving husband and Alliance Home Health and Hospice. Her husband and daughters were with her when she passed away.

Virginia was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Iola, Illinois, and after the death of her mother she was adopted by Arnold and June Farthing. She grew up and attended schools in Illinois and later graduated from business school with a secretarial degree. She served an LDS mission in Billings.

On March 18, 1958, she married Blake Thomas Smith. Virginia and Blake were both members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were married in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Virginia was a loving mother and homemaker and raised two daughters and a son. She was a hard worker, who also held down part-time office jobs, tended large vegetable gardens, milked cows and raised chickens.

Virginia and Blake made their home in many places over the years: Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Montana. After retiring, Blake and Virginia owned a ranch in the Pryor Mountains in Montana, where they enjoyed hiking, horseback riding, wildlife and the mountain scenery.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and music. She had a keen sense of humor and a contagious smile. She was happiest when spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Blake Thomas Smith, of Ammon; daughters Colleen (Lloyd) Becker of Lewisville, Idaho, and Janene (Larry Callister) Thomas of Boise; sister Carole Seeley of Decatur, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
