Commission takes no position on landowners’ de-annexation petition

The Greybull Town Council and a group of seven landowners have yet to find common ground in a dispute over what should be permitted on properties and whether de-annexation or a change in zoning regulations is the best way to resolve their differences.
Darrell and Linda Cooper, Shawn Emmett, Charlie and Rosalia Thomas, Paxton Pina, Thomas Templin, Johnny Brown and Robert Hendrix signed and filed a petition for de-annexation with the Big Horn County Land Planning Department on Feb 14, 2024.
Their properties, which are located west of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railyard and between the cemetery and the business park, total 274.31 acres. The largest, which is owned by the Coopers and consists of 206 acres, is zoned for agriculture.  The others, however, have no zoning designations.
