Margaret D. “Peggy” Werner

December 9, 1959 - August 11, 2026

Margaret D. “Peggy” Werner, 66, a longtime resident of Basin. It is with a heavy heart to let Peggy go, but on Aug. 11, 2026, she went to be with the Lord, after suffering from an unexpected illness. She was born in Cheyenne, Wyo. on Dec. 9, 1959.

As anyone who knew Peggy knew, her love for animals was her life.  She donated to a lot of pet rescues, her beloved pet she leaves behind, Nicko, was a rescue dog and is comforting her best friend, Rose Newton.

She also donated to lion rescues, and I am sure if she could have had one, she would have had several. She had a very big heart and was very welcoming to all.  Very non-judgmental.  She had a whip-snap sense of humor that always made you laugh.

She loved being in nature, the mountains and really enjoyed working in her yard and having flowers until her arthritis didn’t allow freedom of movement.

She will be missed beyond words, and know that she is having the time of her life with her family and beloved animals.

Peggy leaves behind sister Jeanne VanGelder (David); her niece Heather (Chadd and daughter Solara); her nephew Caleb (Camila and son Nayel); Joe Callahan, Susan Blackman and Lori Calarruda; her best friend Rose Newton and her dear Nicko.

She was preceded in death by her father Thomas M. Callahan and her mother Florence (Hayes) Callahan; grandfather Joseph Callahan; grandmother Rowena Eder; aunt Betty Sherwood; uncles James Callahan, John Callahan and Tim Callahan; and grandmother Agnes Hayes.  Anyone who wishes may donate to your local pet rescue under Margaret D. Werner.

“Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be by my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide.” Love you, sister Peg.

There are no public services at this time.  Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors and Clayton Draggoo.
