Greybull native Castro earns law degree from Willamette

A Greybull native is one step away from earning her license to practice law in Oregon.
Jarely Castro, daughter of Ramon and Marisela Castro, graduated in May from Willamette University College of Law with a Juris Doctorate and has since landed a job at a civil litigation firm where she will practice personal injury.
Jarely grew up in Greybull and graduated with the class of 2014. She went on to earn her associate’s degree from Northwest College and bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Lewis and Clark College before taking her Law School Admission Test and getting admitted to Willamette in 2021.
“I decided to go to law school because I knew it would give me the ability to advocate for others,” she said. “Pursuing this career required discipline, hard work, and sacrifices, but I always knew I could do it.

Dirty Scotty’s Hats of Ill Repute opens

Scotty Flitner did not set out to be a milliner. She’s a bonafide cowgirl and sixth generation rancher, who studied art, then equine dentistry, and cowboyed the Idaho-Nevada border before returning to her home state of Wyoming. She’s also insatiably curious, loves learning and is always ready to meet a new challenge with a pragmatic, can-do, never-quit attitude. Following several years of independent study, apprentice work and a four-month intensive in Billings with Randy Rains of Law Dog Hat Company, Flitner’s own hat shop, Dirty Scotty’s Hats of Ill Repute, opened in downtown Greybull recently, taking over the Mackey’s Custom Hats business.
“It just kind of happened,” recalls Flitner. “Mackey passed away and I kind of just happened upon it, and then [the business] was offered to me.”

Circus comes to town

In less than a second, a trapeze artist can plunge to the ground. One wrong step and a 700 lb. tiger could end their lives. Slipping from the backs of their horses, riders can find themselves crushed by draft horses with hooves the size of large dinner plates. These dangers are just some of the hazards circus performers face.

Boxing class offered locally

Post 26 Big Horn Basin Boxing Club will host a youth camp for students in first grade and up July 9 and 11 at the Herb Asp Community Center.  This two-day camp will introduce participants to basic boxing fundamentals in a fun, non-contact manner.  
Two sessions have been scheduled: those in first through fifth grade go from 4-4:45 pm and those in the sixth grade and up from 4:45-5:45 pm.

Food Bank of Wyoming ensures Wyoming neighbors have access to food all summer

As days grow longer and kids welcome their summer break, food insecurity persists — no matter the season. From hunger relief partners to mobile pantries, Food Bank of Wyoming has a network of food distributions and programs to ensure every Wyoming neighbor has access to fresh, nourishing food at no cost all summer long.
“It’s always our focus to make food accessible to anyone experiencing food insecurity and that’s ultimately the goal with our programming – ensuring anyone that needs food can easily get it, regardless of their location or time of year. On top of that, we strive to offer nutritious options in addition to pantry staples,” says Food Bank of Wyoming’s executive director, Rachel Bailey.
