Greybull native Castro earns law degree from Willamette

A Greybull native is one step away from earning her license to practice law in Oregon.
Jarely Castro, daughter of Ramon and Marisela Castro, graduated in May from Willamette University College of Law with a Juris Doctorate and has since landed a job at a civil litigation firm where she will practice personal injury.
Jarely grew up in Greybull and graduated with the class of 2014. She went on to earn her associate’s degree from Northwest College and bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Lewis and Clark College before taking her Law School Admission Test and getting admitted to Willamette in 2021.
“I decided to go to law school because I knew it would give me the ability to advocate for others,” she said. “Pursuing this career required discipline, hard work, and sacrifices, but I always knew I could do it.
“Before law school, I did not know any lawyers or meet anyone who went to law school, but I did have hard-working parents, Marisela and Ramon Castro, who taught me the value of hard work and discipline.”
Now that she has her law degree, Castro is looking forward to being part of the first cohort pursuing the Oregon Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination, which is an alternative and more practical way to get an Oregon bar license.
“I was recently issued a provisional license by the Oregon State Bar, which will allow me to practice law under the supervision of my firm until I obtain my full license, hopefully by the end of this year.”
Looking back on her time in Wyoming, Jarely said she “met wonderful teachers who taught me so much and fostered my desire to seek educational opportunities that would open doors. Even though I grew up in a little town, I had big dreams, and a great support system.”
