Music, food, games, babies and ribbon cutting at Lilac Days in Basin

The Friday night events for the annual Lilac Days will be rocking with a free concert featuring the Man in Tan, food, a ribbon cutting and the sealing of a time capsule. Food will be available for purchase starting at 5:30 p.m. from Up in Smoke BBQ & Smokin Good Cream Cheese. Dirty sodas from EJD’s Creative Sips, too.

Library board navigates budget fears, legal and leadership questions

The Big Horn County Library Board had back-to-back meetings on Wednesday, May 20; first their regularly scheduled board meeting at the Basin library, then a jaunt over to the county courthouse for a commissioners’ work session. Topics of discussion carried across both locations included the library director’s position, the upcoming fiscal year, and the issue of library board governance and legal protections. 

Stakeholders meet on affordable housing

Bright Block Initiative, south Big Horn County’s new housing nonprofit, hosted a group of local stakeholders including lenders, builders and community members to learn about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s single family housing loan programs on Monday, May 18 at the Greybull library. 

Judge rules in Shell Canal Co. board vs. shareholder suit

Judge Bill Simpson of the Big Horn County, Fifth Judicial District addressed the Shell Canal Company’s dispute with Shell Creek Ranch, LLC, and others on May 14, 2026. An order was issued denying the motions for preliminary injunction and defendant Shell Creek Ranch’s motion to dismiss.
