Mailers circulate false claims that Wyoming lawmakers voted to take Trump off ballot

The Wyoming Legislature has never in its history considered, debated, nor voted on any proposal to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot in any election, in any state. Political mailers sent by the officially registered WY Freedom PAC to Laramie, Fremont and Sweetwater county voters this week claim otherwise.
“[He] voted with the RADICAL LEFT to remove President Trump from the ballot,” according to glossy postcards targeting Reps. Lloyd Larsen (R-Lander), Cody Wylie (R-Rock Springs) and Dan Zwonitzer (R-Cheyenne).

While fireworks were launched into the night sky, four-course meals were served and time was spent with family as Americans celebrated Independence Day, a group of 17 travellers from Greybull celebrated a little bit differently this year. Their Fourth of July included foreign beaches, ancient European architecture and rushed connection flights.

Rally to prevent veteran suicides July 22 in Basin

In 2012, the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) compiled a suicide data report. The report showed there was an average of 22.2 veteran suicides per day in 2010.
From that report came several awareness campaigns such as Buddy Check 22 and the 22 Pushup Challenge. The numbers have gone done, but veteran suicides are at a higher rate than that of non-veteran U.S. adults (31.7 per 100,000 veteran suicides vs. 16.1 per 100,000 civilian suicides in 2020). The average is 16.8.

Town makes progress on CIP, dispute with several landowners

The Greybull Town Council on July 8 inched closer to finalizing a new capital improvement plan and resolving their differences with a group of landowners who had threatened deannexation, but backtracked on a proposed zoning change for a residential neighborhood.
Cody Wyatt and Marcus Dufort of WWC Engineering presented a draft version of a capital improvement plan (CIP) at the June meeting.  They were back at Town Hall on July 8 to present an update of the CIP that incorporated input the council provided at a recent work session.

Speed a factor in fatal accident

A 27-year-old Basin man, Scott Anderson, lost his life in a tragic accident that took place near the Wyoming Lime Producers plant 1.8 miles north of Frannie. The crash took place on Monday, July 8, at 10:05 p.m., literally on the dividing line between Park and Big Horn Counties.

Probst remembered at Midway

Friends and family of the late Jeff Probst gave him a fitting sendoff Saturday at Midway, playing a round of golf and raising money for his favorite course before celebrating his remarkable life at a wake in his honor.
“Many memories of Jeff were shared,” said Lonnie Koch, a longtime Midway Golf Club member.
Probst, 87, died April 2, 2024, in Tucson, Ariz., with his wife and son at his side.  
The tournament attracted 37 players.

Economic Analysis Division releases June report

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Natural gas prices improved slightly in June, while oil prices remained steady, according to the June 2024 issue of The Wyoming Insight, which serves as an energy index and business indicators report for the state.
The June 2024 natural gas price at the Opal Hub averaged $1.71 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), $0.37 more than last month. The Henry Hub natural gas price averaged $2.53/MMBtu in June, $0.40 higher than last month.

Sheriff McMillan returned yesterday from Cheyenne where he had been called as a witness in the case against Mrs. C.W. Shomes and P. Tucker. They were charged with possession of liquor at the Alamo Hotel and destroying evidence.

With the aid of EPA funds, the city will drill wells for surface water to augment the present water supply. Realizing that the city’s water supply is endangered, city fathers sought to remedy the situation.

9:57 a.m.: A golden retriever was spotted in the vicinity of the Ace hardware store.
2:22 p.m.: An officer provided assistance at the Department of Family Services.
July 9:  3:17 p.m. An extra patrol was requested on South Second Street.
5:11 p.m.: An officer responded to a report of a car accident at the A&W.
9:42 p.m.: A traffic stop on North Sixth Street and Fourth Avenue North resulted in a warning.
