May 27 — 1:35 a.m.: A traffic stop near milepost 102 on Highway 30 resulted in a warning.
11:56 a.m.: A traffic stop near milepost 18 on Highway 31 in Hyattville resulted in a warning.
12:15 p.m.: A deputy responded to a traffic complaint near milepost 179 on U.S. Highway 20.
1:09 p.m.: A deputy provided assistance at the sheriff’s office.
1:31 p.m.: A 911 hangup from Lane 38 near Burlington was investigated.
2:49 p.m.: Dispatch received a report of possible animal abuse occurring on Lane 39 near Otto.

7:01 a.m.: Officers participated in community relations.
1:18 a.m.: Officers investigated a 9-1-1 hangup in Greybull.
5:15 p.m.: Officers assisted another agency at Mile Point 185 on Highway 20 South in Manderson.
10:29 p.m.: Officers assisted another agency in locating a stolen vehicle.
May 28 — 9:25 a.m.: A lost dog was reported to officers.
9:39 a.m.: A found dog was reported to officers.

G&F seeks nominations for Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is currently accepting nominations for the Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame and the newly created Youth Conservationist of the Year award. These initiatives aim to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the state’s outdoor heritage.
The Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant and lasting lifetime contributions to the conservation of Wyoming’s outdoor heritage. The 2025 nominations are being accepted until June 30.

Rodeo, parade, art festival highlight celebration

“Long Live Cowboys” is the theme of this year’s Days of ‘49 celebration, which runs today through Sunday, June 9.
Here’s a rundown of what’s planned over the next several days:
Thursday, June 8
The tug-of-war opens the celebration on the highway in front of Lisa’s restaurant.  The fun starts at 6 p.m.  To the winners go the glory — and to the losers, a good soaking. But most of all, it’s just great fun for participants and spectators alike. Sign-up sheets are available at Lisa’s.

Hanson art raffle tickets on sale

Shell artist Ann Hanson has once again donated a piece of artwork to raise funds for the Days of ‘49 committee to ensure the continued success of the event.
Days of ‘49 committee members are selling raffle tickets, at $1 apiece or six for $5, for a canvas print of Ann’s “Storm Chasers.”
The drawing will be held during Saturday’s kids rodeo/merchant roping event at the rodeo grounds.

Arts Guild to host annual Quick Draw, Live Auction

The Big Horn County Arts Guild will host its third annual Quick Draw and Arts Festival on Saturday, June 8, as part of the Greybull’s Days of ’49 celebrations.
Hosted inside Bob’s Diner, the quick draw will commence at 5 p.m. sharp. Participating artists will have one hour to complete a piece from scratch or finish a current work-in-progress. Following this, artwork will be framed and hung, and guests will have the opportunity to view the pieces on display. A live auction will begin at 6:30.

Greybull will be hosting its Days of 49 this weekend. To understand how the celebration has evolved, we checked back into the Greybull Standard annals to find memories of its early years.
Greybull Standard: Dateline – June 7, 1945: “Saturday will be a big day in Greybull. At that time the Jaycees will present the Days of ’49 celebration, the first of this kind ever held in Greybull.”

Officials say 2024 wildfire season is likely to be ‘average to normal’

CHEYENNE — Forestry and public land officials said Friday that they expect Wyoming to experience an “average-to-normal” wildland fire season, with the north-central part of the state experiencing the driest conditions.
In what has become an annual tradition, Wyoming State Forestry Division and Bureau of Land Management officials joined Gov. Mark Gordon in a media briefing that covered wildfire safety, prevalence and steps officials are taking to lower the risk of wildfires in Wyoming this year.
