Norovirus again making the rounds in Wyoming

Norovirus, a familiar culprit, is probably behind recently increased reports of illnesses in Wyoming, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH).
Commonly described as “stomach flu” or “food poisoning,” norovirus is spread when people eat contaminated food, touch contaminated surfaces, or come in close contact with someone already sick.

Big Horn County sticker concept contest is open

If you could put the essence of Big Horn County on a sticker, what would it look like? Wild horses, dinosaurs, waterfalls, mountains, canyons and much more could be a part of the design.
Big Horn County, Grow Greybull, and the Lovell Area and Basin Area Chambers are asking that question of the public because a Big Horn County sticker is set to become a part of the Wyoming Office of Tourism’s (WOT) Track Your Trip program.

Local graduation rates top state average

All three high schools in south Big Horn County graduated a higher percentage of their students than the state average last year, according to data released last week by the Wyoming Department of Education.
The statewide graduation rate in 2022-23 remained relatively consistent at 81.4%, a slight decrease of .4 percent from 2021-22’s 81.8 percent. Wyoming’s graduation rates have remained statistically strong — above 80 percent — since 2015-16.

BULLSEYE: Fifth annual dart tournament hits the mark in the eyes of area’s top players

On Saturday, the Smokehouse Saloon and Silver Spur Salooon hosted the fifth annual Saloon Shootout, a darts tournament started by Pamela and Michael Gorski. The contest has become well-regarded in the run up to the state tournament, not just for good times and healthy competition, but also the community behind it.

As he begins his sixth year in the state’s highest office, Gov. Mark Gordon identified the continued diversification of the economy, property tax relief, mental health resources, the recruitment of first responders, and the need for the education system to meet kids where they are as the top priorities of his second term.

Weed & Pest site of pesticide applicator programs

The University of Wyoming Extension will offer private pesticide applicator education programs next month at Big Horn County Weed & Pest, located at 4782 U.S. Highway 310 west of Greybull. Dates are Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon and Feb. 28 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Private applicator licenses are required for anyone who applies or supervises the application of Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs).

Bob’s Diner to host open mic event for Saddles in Service

Bob’s Diner will be hosting an open mic night on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. to benefit Saddles in Service, a non-profit organization that helps both military veterans and first responders grappling with PTSD through equine therapy and horsemanship.
Tom Bercher, a 23-year veteran of the United States Army residing in Shell, leads these heroes through the Big Horn Mountains to give them a taste of ranch work and cowboy living.
