3A teams slow down Buff JV
The Big Horn Basin Hoops Classic was a learning experience for the Greybull Buff JV.
Winners of 10 of their first 11 to start the year, the squad of freshmen and sophomores was competitive every time out, but lost three straight, succumbing to the Powell JV 51-44, the Worland JV 46-40 and the Lovell JV 42-32.
Coach James Armel called it a “tough weekend,” blaming his team’s struggles on “too many turnovers.”
He added, “The physicality of the 3A level was apparent.”
Aaron Corral, with 12 points, and Briston Craft, with 11, led the Buffs in the seven-point loss to Powell.
In the Worland game, Anthony Chacon had seven points while Corral, Craft and Jax Miller each had six. Corral led in rebounds with six; Chacon and Corral were each credited with three steals.
Craft, Chacon and Corral each had six points to pace the Buffs versus Lovell.
With the conference season about to begin, Armel said a big focus of practice will be limiting turnovers.
“We are still excited to see how these boys grow in our system as the season progresses,” he said.
