Another angel got his wings

After putting the Dillon McKinnon story in the “done” file, a thought jumped into my mind.

Remember the classic movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and Jimmy Stewart’s guardian angel, who jumped into the river to save Stewart when he thought his life had been worthless?

And the final scene when a tiny silver bell on the Christmas tree rang out and the final words, “Every time a bell rings, another angel got his wings.”

I wondered if Dillon, after 19 years, had finally gotten his wings.

And in a completely unrelated incident, I attended a track meet at Burlington the last Friday in March. Some years ago, the track was finished and the Huskies finally had a place, not only to host track meets, but to practice.

It is a beautiful track; the weather was almost ideal, 50s, 60s, a slight breeze, “just a jacket” sort of day.

A large meet with athletes from across the entire spectrum of classes competed.

I enjoyed it immensely.  I covered Burlington track for a lot of years, and always enjoyed the interviews with Coach Olson - admired immensely his total commitment to all his athletes, and his proud recognition each week of athletes who were recognized on the school’s featured “Wall of Fame,” honoring any and all athletes who recorded a personal best. He always said that was his favorite part of it all.  Miss those interviews.

Son No. 4 gifted me with a double rocker for my patio.  Weather has cooperated and I have enjoyed it several afternoons. A great addition - and a swing sturdy and high enough I can get both down and up easily.  Looking forward to more and more nice spring days.

And where oh where did the year go?  Just about six weeks before graduation.  Seems like just yesterday I was covering the Lady Buff basketball games.

Now I’m waiting for Christine McMillan to start posting pictures of her backyard as it “comes back to life.” Always wanted to sit down and have a cup of coffee with her and admire what looks so beautiful.

Let me know who sees the first tulips blooming!
