Local artist Linda Jolley’s painting of a bronc rider in front a faded American flag, entitled “Dust and Glory” won Best in Show and Officers’ Choice honors at the art show held during the recent Days of ‘49 celebration.

The art show was held at Skillman Art Productions and organized by the Big Horn County Arts Guild, which also ran a quick draw and auction on Saturday, June 14.

President Rebecca Kinane said Jolley’s entry and its close adherence to the ‘49er theme of “Stars, Stripes and Rodeo Nights” impressed not only the three judges but also the Guild’s officers, who used rubric scoring forms to evaluate the entries.

People’s Choice went to Maggie Bassett.  Ballots were cast throughout the five-day show which ended Sunday, June 15.

In other results:

•  In 2D, first went to Kinane, second to Jolley and third to Benjaporn Helburn.

• In 3D, first went to Brianna Laird, second to Jennifer Vollmer.

• In Photography, Jade Smith placed first, Lisa Kunkel second and Tera Sanchez third.

Fourteen artists entered works in the art show this year.

Quick draw

Kinane also deemed the quick draw and auction a success, with $4,650 in total sales.

While most of that went to the artists, what the Guild made in commission will help cover its overhead, which includes advertising, website hosting fees and various expenses incurred for special events.

Among other things, the Guild also aims to provide a yearly scholarship to a GHS graduate who expresses interest in pursuing a career in a creative sector business.

Quick draw participants this year included Nic Resch, Brianna Laird, Lisa Kunkel, Maggie Bassett, Ann Hanson, Julie Werbelow, Rebecca Kinane, Linda Jolley, Benjaporn Helburn, Tera Sanchez, Lisa McDonald and Sandy Rivers.

“The officer board was pleased with the demonstration of talent by our artists in both the quick draw event and the art show hosted by Skillman Art Productions,” said Kinane. “We have a wonderful group of talented artists in Greybull and the surrounding areas, and it is always exciting to see what new creations our artists will bring to the table with each show.

“The public enjoyed the event, and like having the Guild’s Days of ‘49 arts festival near the parade and car show; it makes it easy for community members and travelers to experience several of the popular events Days of ‘49 has to offer.”
