Big Horn County 4-H holds Achievement Night
Big Horn County 4-H recognized the contributions of its volunteer leaders and success of its members during its recent Achievement Night celebration.
The evening’s highlights included the presentation of nine-year member pins, considered the greatest milestone in 4-H, along with a variety of special awards recognizing outstanding achievement in 4-H.
The following Big Horn County 4-Hers received nine-year jackets: Wyatt Harrison, Kyler Winters, Maycee McKim, Makayla Workman, Corrie VanderPloeg, and Cayden Fink
“Each of you has made a significant impact in Big Horn County through your participation in the 4-H Program,” said Gretchen Gasvoda, the 4-H educator in Big Horn County. “Whether in club meetings, participating in projects, or engaging in county, state, or national opportunities, your contributions have enriched our community.
“You may have encouraged new members to join 4-H or helped someone learn a new skill. Thank you for your years of hard work and dedication!”
Reaghan Foss, Joshua Brown, Roseannah Brown and Evelyn Brown were honored for completing their 10th or 11th year in Big Horn County 4-H.
Several special awards were presented at the end of the ceremony.
The Harry Collins Memorial Wool Blanket Award, given to the senior or intermediate 4-H member exhibiting the top breeding sheep or market sheep record book, went to Renaka Lauhoff.
Brinley Dewey and Jaylee Davila were this year’s recipients of the Gerritt Swiftney Memorial Award, given to the first-year member with outstanding record book accomplishments, community and club participation.
Cinch Bischoff captured the Shannon Lane Betz Memorial 4-H Horse Award. The award recognizes a 4-H horse member who has distinguished themselves in participation and placement at horse events at fair, 4H community service, sportsmanship and portfolios.
The late Howard Gernant, a lifelong 4-H member and leader in Emblem, was recognized in the special 4-H families segment of the program. The Leader’s Council intends to purchase a bench to be placed at the fairgrounds in his memory.
The Extra Mile members award went to Addisyn Perkins, the Extra Mile leader award went to Amie Hatch and the Extra Mile volunteers award went to Mike Whaley and his business, Agri-Tire in Greybull.
Paisyn Bendixen was nominated for the Bright Clover Future Award, given in memory of Ha’den Kelso. Veda Morgan won the Clover Boost Award, which recognizes 4-H members who embody enthusiasm and dedication in their journey.
The outstanding 4-H alumni were members of the Greg and Pam Flitner family of Shell, including Colten, Morgan, Scotty and Jordan.
The Big Horn Farm Bureau Federation was recognized as Friend of 4-H.
Big Horn County 4-H also recognized its leaders, without whom “the 4-H program would not exist,” according to Gasvoda. Lauhoff was honored as the outstanding first-year leader in the 4-H organization.
Lauhoff, Tia Phillips, Amber Dewey and Laureena Houchin completed leadership training this past year.
