Buff Ranch plan comes into focus

A plan to expand the usage of the Buff Ranch was presented at the February meeting of the Big Horn County School District No. 3 board of trustees.
Jennifer Schultz, the district’s FFA advisor, and Ashley Coenen, of the South Big Horn Conservation District, outlined a multi-year vision for the 20-acre school farm located northeast of Greybull.
The farm already has animals — four chickens, two ducks, two Nigerian dwarf goats and a mini mule.  They are owned and cared for by FFA students Isaac Vigil and Ashtyn Chapman.
Schultz sought board support for the addition of two goats for extended school year (ESY) and special education programs as well as two to three steers for the farm-to-school program.  
“We’d raise them, get them to weight and the animals would go to the cafeteria program,” she said.
