The Greybull Lady Buffs got by a scrappy Burlington Lady Husky squad in their only match last week. The match went three sets with Greybull prevailing, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16.

“It was a good match for our team. I thought the girls played with focus and intensity,” commented Coach Sara Schlattmann.

It was another strong performance from the serve line where as a team the Buffs were 94%. Leading the Buffs from the serve line were Perla Rodriguez and Aleksey McColloch, both at 100%. Shayne Cheatham was at 95% and Julie Lopez served 94%.

Offensively Coach Schlattmann noted that the attack was well distributed by Wyatt Whaley who had 32 assists. Perla led with 13 kills, Aleksey had eight and Ellie Holloway, Camila Acuna and Marlee Henson had five kills each.

Aleksey led the charge defensively with seven blocks and Camila had five.

“I felt like our middle blockers had a great, well-rounded match,” Schlattmann said. “Their presence at the net certainly makes an impact. Behind them, Fatima Chavez again led the way with 4 digs and a great passing performance.

“As I said, I think the girls played with great focus and I was very proud of them. Not having a match over the weekend, I am hoping they are all rested for what will be an important week of play for us.”

The Buffs host Rocky Mountain Friday. Saturday, the Buffs travel to Thermopolis.

Schlattmann pointed out that in their first conference matchups with Rocky and Thermop, both were barnburners that went five sets. You can bet the Grizzlies and Bobcats will be hoping to turn the tables on the Buffs in their second and final meetings before regionals.

“Both of these teams will be bringing their best,” said Schlattmann. “And I expect it will be quite a battle again this round. We match up very evenly with both of these teams.”
