Buffs top Rebels 42-28; face Rocky, Wind River next

“We played a pretty good game,” was Coach Jeff Hunt’s first comment on the 42-28 victory his Lady Buffs put together last Thursday as they took on the Lady Rebels in Basin.
Greybull took a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and held their rivals at bay the rest of the way.
“We jumped on them early, put a lot of pressure on their guards and did a great job working the ball inside out. We moved the ball well in our offensive sets and got the ball to our shooters.”
In addition, he said the athletes “had great ball movement” and did a great job playing inside out.
Hunt praised the work of his post players, commenting that when they didn’t have a good shot, would look to find players who did.
The Buffs held the Rebels to single digit scoring in all four quarters, while scoring in double digits themselves in three of the four quarters.
The Buffs also played a great defensive game.  “We didn’t let their two leading scorers attack the basket like they want,” said Hunt. Instead the Buffs held the two scorers to 12 points between them.  “They like to push the ball and we didn’t give them a chance to play downhill like they want.”
Three Buffs were in double digit scoring: Kennedy Craft had 14, Mataia Henderson 13  and Ashley Gomez 11.
Hunt said the victory was a “big one” for his team as it comes before two conference games this weekend. On Friday, the Lady Buffs travel to Cowley to play Rocky Mountain at 4 and 5:30 p.m.; Saturday they will host Wind River at noon and 1:30 p.m.
Hunt said they hope to use the victory over the Rebels “as momentum going into this weekend.”
