One of the events that led to the beginnings of Camp Bethel was a broken arm. Barbara Ellison Greene had broken her arm she needed help if she was to go to the Christian camp she normally went to in the summer. That camp wouldn’t let her sister go with her because her sister Betty wasn’t in the right age group. Ellisons started looking for a camp closer that would allow the girls to be together. They heard of a youth group led by Pastor Oliver Reed that was going to be at Bear Lodge on the Big Horns.
