It was a mixed bag for the Lady Buff JV netters when they went over the mountain last weekend to participate in the Big Horn Invitational.
In action Friday, the JV split with Sundance in the opener, 21-14, 4-21; split with Wright, 23-21, 14-21; split with Pine Bluffs, 20-22, 21-14, and lost to Moorcroft, 16-21, 16-21.
“The girls split wins and losses pretty evenly,” according to Coach Christine Armel. “They had some highs and some lows. The girls were able to see a higher level of play at this tournament and I think it really challenged them all day.”
Saturday the young Buffs opened against the Tongue River Lady Eagles and were put down in two sets, 16-21, 22-23. The Buffs came back to split with host Big Horn, 22-20, 8-21.
Armel said the TR match was a tough loss and it took a while for the Greybull athletes to gather themselves, calm down, and get back into a rhythm. Once the Buffs got it going, Armel said she saw good things happening on the court.
“Overall, the girls are playing through tough moments and having to work at keeping a positive attitude when things get difficult,” said Armel. “I was proud of what they accomplished as such a young group and I have seen lots of growth in all of them.”
Fans can watch their Buffs at home this week as they and Thermopolis are co-hosting the Western Wyoming Volleyball Challenge.
In Greybull on Friday, Buffs play Wind River at noon and Kemmerer at 4 p.m.
Saturday in Greybull, the Buffs play Big Piney at 8 a.m., Farson-Eden at noon and Wyoming Indian at 2 p.m.
