Council rejects request to take over Shell Town water system

The Town of Greybull won’t be assuming responsibility for the water system that serves the approximately 40 users that are part of the Shell Town Water Improvement District.
At its May 13 meeting, the council voted to deny a request from representatives of the district, citing outstanding issues related to easements and rights-of-way as well as concerns about the impact it could have on the public works crew.
“I’m against it,” said Councilman Jeremy Kottman.  “I’m not saying that within five to 10 years, we can’t.  But with the inexperience of our crew — they’re doing good and time will improve them — but for now, I’d rather they focus on right here, the town.”
Council members suggested that they would be willing to reconsider the district’s request within a year, with the hope being that the easement/right-of-way issues are properly researched and resolved by then.
