County fair quilt show draws 38 entries

The Big Horn Fence Initiative (BHFI), a coalition of local, private, state and federal agencies and personnel, are seeking volunteers for a day of service on Aug. 10 to help remove a half-mile of wooden rail fence and posts. The fence sits on the boundary of the USFS and state land for the Medicine Lodge Habitat Management Area and its removal and remediation will benefit  both wintering wildlife and summer livestock production. 

Volunteers are asked to meet at the end of Taylor Park Road, roughly 1.5 hours drive east from Greybull. To get there, volunteers should use Alkali Road or Red Gulch Road, both of which tie into Forest Road 17. From Forest Road 17, volunteers will be able to navigate to FS Road 329 to arrive at Taylor Park near Black Butte. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, water, clothes that can offer protection from sun and wire fencing, and a smile. 

The BHFI’s stated goal is to improve wildlife habitat and livestock management by removing, converting and installing livestock friendly fences across the western slope of the Big Horn mountains.
