Ever since she started showing animals when she was 7 years old, Daisy Carpenter has been very involved in the Big Horn County Fair.

Inspired by her older brothers who showed lambs, Carpenter followed their tracks and showed lambs for her first six years, competing in both market and showmanship categories.

“Then lambs went to pigs and then horses and then chickens,” Carpenter said.

This year, Carpenter is showing two lambs and two pigs, representing 4-H as well as FFA in her competitions. She is also competing in many different classes with her horse.

A typical fair week for Carpenter is very busy, but she always finds fun throughout.

Monday and Tuesday are dedicated to horse competitions, with pig showing following on Wednesday. Thursday is lamb showing, and then finally a break for Carpenter on Friday. The busyness starts back up on Saturday, which is a sale barn for competitors. Carpenter enjoys finishing out the day by spending time at the rodeo and showing off her swing dancing moves at the dance.

Through all her years of participating, Carpenter has had many achievements in the Big Horn County Fair.

“My proudest moment was probably getting high point horse, which means I scored the highest points out of all the horses in my class (in 2024),” Carpenter shared.

She was also the round robin showmanship champion in 2024 in the intermediate age category.

When asked about her favorite part of fair, Carpenter said, “I’d have to say staying up with friends. It’s very social and you get to see a lot of people there.”
