Dollar General store opens in Greybull
In addition to the trick-or-treaters who descended on downtown streets, Halloween also brought the soft opening of Greybull’s new 10,600 square foot Dollar General store at 247 Greybull Ave.
Mary Crichton, assistant store manager, said the store was about 75% stocked at the time.
“We’re still waiting on some semis — we had five or six in last week,” she said.
Among the shoppers browsing the aisles early Saturday morning was Darce DeWitt, who had heard about the opening by word of mouth and on social media.
“I’d been looking forward to it,” she said. “I moved back here from Colorado (where there were Dollar Generals). Not having a Wal-Mart close by, it’s nice having a store with a little better selection of things that doesn’t close at 6 and open at 9 — the hours are a little longer.”
A spokesperson at the Dollar General’s corporate headquarters reiterated that the plan is to employ six to 10 people. On its first weekend, the store had four employees and was looking to hire more. Visit dg.com/careers for more details.
Dollar General had previously announced plans to open 575 new stores across the country, with Greybull being just one.
A grand opening event featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and customer giveway is tentatively planned for early December.
