Drought-tolerant flora grows even from Greybull’s poorest soil

Beverly Henke and her husband Kris Henke bought the old Greybull hospital on the south side of town in 2019. No one had lived in the 107-year-old building for two hot, dry years. The yard was completely dead, save for a scraggly patch of grass under an ancient apple tree. Alkaline silt blew in through the house’s window units. A well for groundwater testing, leftover from the Standard Oil refinery, was just cleared and sealed last year, the industry leaving who knows what pollutants in already poor soil.
