Greybull Middle School’s top team improved to 3-0 on Saturday morning, riding a dominant defense and big plays on special teams to a 34-6 win over Thermopolis.

The Buffs limited the visiting Bobcats to just 11 yards on 18 carries

Coach Logan Burningham called it a “big-time performance” by Greybull’s run-stuffers.

“It starts up front with the pressure we have been getting from our front three,” he said. “This, followed up by great outside containment from our outside linebackers, has led to some great defensive efforts.”

The Bobcats scored their only touchdown on a pass on the final play of the first half.  Burningham said pass defense will be an area of emphasis this week. “ We allowed too many completions on passes that could have been batted down,” he said.

That was about the only blemish, however. Thermop’s first drive ended in a blocked punt, a play that “turned all momentum in our favor,” Burningham said. The Buffs proceeded immediately punched it in and were off and running.

“We moved the ball efficiently, scoring on all but one drive with our starting offense in the game,” Burningham said. “Our line has come a long way up front, thanks to Coach Lipp working day in and day out on fundamentals.”

The Buffs travel to Pavillion Saturday for a pair of afternoon games against Wind River.  The first one starts at 1 p.m., the second at 2:30 p.m.
